First Baptist Church Opelika Announces the Passing of Senior Pastor Jeff Meyers
First Baptist Church Opelika (FBCO) confirmed Friday the death of its longtime Senior Pastor, Jeff Meyers, who passed away Thursday night. The announcement, shared in a letter to the congregation, has left church members and the Opelika community mourning the loss of a deeply respected spiritual leader.
In the statement, church leaders reflected on Pastor Meyers’ lasting impact, describing him as a man who served with “unwavering devotion, compassion, and humility.” They noted that his faith was evident not only in the messages he delivered from the pulpit but also in the personal care he offered through prayer, support, and everyday conversations.
The church has asked the community to keep the Meyers family in their prayers and to respect their privacy during this difficult time. Information regarding memorial or funeral services will be released once arrangements are finalized.
To give members a place to gather, pray, and grieve, FBCO opened The Well, its designated prayer space, on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The space will open again at 8 p.m. Friday and at 8 a.m. Saturday. Church officials also reminded attendees that road closures would begin at 2 p.m. Friday in preparation for the Snopelika Christmas Parade.
Pastor Meyers is remembered for his heartfelt ministry and steadfast leadership—qualities that shaped the church community for many years and will continue to influence it for years to come.
